Asthma
These clinics are committed to keeping our asthmatic patients at peak performance! Our specialist nurses teach about asthma and check you are getting the best from your inhalers. Book appointments with your doctors’ receptionist.
Cervical Smear
The NHS offers women between the ages of 25 and 64 a free cervical smear test every three years. You cannot be tested while you have your period, so the best time to book an appointment is roughly midway between two periods. Our female treatment room nurses take smears and you can book appointments via your doctor’s receptionist. You do not need to have smears if you have had a hysterectomy unless the operation was performed because of cervical cancer.
The smear test is simple taking less than five minutes. It can be slightly uncomfortable but it is not painful. During the test, a few cells from the cervix are removed and sent away to a laboratory to be analysed under a microscope. For most women, the smear shows that the cells of the cervix are normal and healthy. If there is evidence of abnormal cells, further tests are done to see how much of the cervix is affected and what the best choice of treatment is. Remember that smears are not done to discover active cervical cancer. Their purpose is to check for early warning cells that might turn cancerous in a few years time and even when severely abnormal cells are found, treatment is almost always 100 per cent effective.
