Medical Students
Medical students have been a regular feature at Minden over the last 4 years, following the introduction of the new curriculum at Manchester University. The new curriculum places a heavy reliance on teaching in the community.
All three practices are involved in undergraduate teaching and students from years 3 and 4 are allocated on a regular basis. We have now experience of teaching almost all of the modules. We have occasionally accommodated year 5 students by special arrangement only. Several students have come back to us on a number of occasions and have stayed with us for Special Study Modules. We are able to accommodate just about any SSM project that a student may have in mind.
The practices take students on the following days:
Drs Fletcher and Colter………..................Tuesday students
Drs Standing, Deakin and Norman…........ Wednesday
Drs Shekar, Joseph, Gibson, de Vial……..Thursday
Dr Norman co-ordinates all medical student teaching at Minden and should be the first point of contact (0161-764-2652 or paul@trfcbury.freeserve.co.uk) for all allocated students or any prospective SSM student.
We believe that our education facilities at Minden are second to none. Three of the GPs at Minden are qualified GP Trainers and regularly are involved in postgraduate education, We have a well-stocked book / journal library and rapidly expanding CD-ROM library housed in a room which is available for students' almost exclusive use. The room also contains a PC with internet connection, zip drive and printing facilities which students are strongly encouraged to use. There is also a facility for using a digital camera. We maintain close links with the Postgraduate Centre at Bury General Hospital, which is close-by.
