Treatment Room
Minden Medical Centre has a very busy, but efficiently run, treatment room.
We have two nurses, Sister Lorraine who works 34 hours per week and SRN Heather who works 34 hours per week employed by the Primary Care Trust, we also have a phlebotomist / health care assistant Sue. For those patients that require dressings ear syringing stitches removed or some vaccinations you have to be referred by either the doctor or hospital and there is a different contact number you must ring to book.
A wide range of procedures are carried out during the course of the day i.e. dressings, cervical smears, electrocardiograms, ear syringing, venepuncture, travel vaccines, childhood and baby immunisations. In addition more complex treatments and tests are carried out such as assessing leg ulcers using a Doppler machine to ascertain arterial or venous component and uroflow studies.
Our Treatment Room Nurses also assist your doctor with minor operations such as ingrowing toenails, sebaceous cyst removal and cryotherapy clinics.
Our Nurses run two sessions daily, morning and afternoon, which are mainly appointment, based, often seeing up to 40 patients per session. They also accommodate patients who have attended a doctors appointment and the doctor feels it is necessary for that patient to have a certain test done that day i.e. blood test, ECG etc. The morning sessions are mainly for patients who need blood tests that require fasting from the evening before (we would not want our patients to stay hungry for too long so we do make appointments for these patients early morning).
Before and after each session our Nurses prepare for the next session, ensuring that all instruments are checked and sterilized, stationery and equipment maintained and well stocked and that the many vaccines we hold are well stocked and stored correctly. As you will appreciate Treatment Room appointments are of a premium and our Doctors and Nurses would appreciate it if you find you cannot attend your appointment to please telephone the surgery to cancel as there is always another patient would could use your appointment.
